Dear Tech In-Law,

I am trying to create a slideshow on my PC and all my music is handled through iTunes.  All the music files I need to work with are currently in a different format.  I can't seem to find how to change them - can you help?
Beth

Dear Beth,
I've converted my songs several times as I debate whether I should save them in a higher audio quality format or one that saves file space.  Recently I have decided to stick with a larger file size and I use and external hard drive to store the files so I don't have to worry about the space.  The process of converting the songs is an easy one but it may take some time depending on the size of your collection you are working with.  In iTunes, just select the songs you are wanting to use that are the wrong format. Click on "advanced" in the  top menu, then choose "convert selection to mp3".  You can also achieve the same result by selecting the song in your music library and "right-clicking" on it and choosing the action there.

At this point you will then have 2 copies of the song in your music library with one of them being in mp3 format.  It's up to you whether you want to remove the alternate format or not.  If you need an alternate format in the future, you can simply repeat the process.  That's it!
